Position Title: Site Manager – Sink Shafts/Tunnelling

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee civils and utilities works with a strong emphasis on sink shafts and tunnelling.
Associated experience in deep excavations, and water/wastewater infrastructure. This role will be responsible for leading site operations, ensuring safe delivery, coordinating multiple teams, and driving productivity across a technically challenging project.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Coordination
- Manage day-to-day construction activities across shaft sinking and associated civils works.
- Oversee subcontractors, direct labour, plant, and material requirements.
- Ensure the project is delivered to programme, budget, and quality standards.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Lead on-site H&S, RAMS reviews, inductions, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure full compliance with CDM regulations and utilities safety standards.
- Manage safe systems of work around deep excavations, confined spaces, lifting ops, and temporary works.
Technical & Operational Management
- Coordinate the construction of sink shafts, ducting, chambers, utilities installations, and reinstatement.
- Work closely with engineering teams to interpret drawings and resolve technical queries.
- Monitor progress, complete site diaries, progress reports, and permit-to-work documentation.
- Liaise with water companies, utilities providers, and local authorities where required.
Stakeholder Communication
- Act as the main site point of contact for the client, project managers, and inspectors.
- Ensure clear communication between teams, suppliers, and the wider project stakeholders.
- Attend progress meetings, report issues, and propose solutions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience as a Site Manager with a proven experience within sink shaft/tunnelling projects.
- Strong background managing deep excavations, confined spaces, temporary works, and heavy civils.
- SMSTS (essential)
- CSCS (Black/Gold)
- Confined Spaces (Medium Risk or High Risk preferred)
- Temporary Works Coordinator/ Supervisor (advantage)
- First Aid at Work
- Lifting Operations (desirable)
- Full UK Driving Licence
