Contract Construction Planner – Groundworks & Civil Engineering

Location: Home Counties & South 
Contract: Freelance / Contract
Rate: £350–£425 per day, depending on experience
Duration: On-going 

We are currently looking for an experienced Contract Construction Planner to join a well-established Groundworks & Civil Engineering contractor.

This is a great opportunity for a mid-level Planner looking to take the next step in their career, working closely with the Head Planner across a range of projects while also being given the opportunity to take ownership of projects of your own.

The Role

Working as part of the planning team, you will assist the Head Planner with the delivery and management of project programmes, while gradually taking responsibility for your own projects from planning through to completion.

You will be involved in:

• Developing and maintaining detailed construction programmes.

• Supporting the Head Planner with project planning and programme management.

• Taking ownership of planning activities across your own projects.

• Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and commercial teams.

• Monitoring progress against programme and identifying potential delays or risks.

• Producing regular programme updates and progress reports.

• Reviewing project performance and providing planning insight to the wider project team.

• Assisting with short-term and long-term planning requirements.

• Identifying opportunities to improve project delivery and programme performance.

• Liaising with clients, subcontractors and internal teams where required.

About You

We are looking for someone with a strong background in construction planning, ideally gained within groundworks, civil engineering, infrastructure or heavy civils.

You should have:

• Previous experience working as a Construction Planner within a contractor environment.

• A good understanding of construction programmes and project delivery.

• Experience using Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject.

• The ability to work independently while also supporting a wider planning function.

• Strong communication and organisational skills.

• The confidence to engage with project teams and challenge programme performance where required.

• A proactive approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

This role would suit a Planner who has a few years' experience and is ready to take on greater responsibility and ownership, without necessarily being at Senior Planner level yet.
