Position: Construction Health & Safety Manager
Location: North West Region (Manchester-based)
Project: Utilities & Infrastructure Projects
Hours: 07:00 – 17:00
Duration: Permanent / Ongoing
Salary or Pay Rate: DOE
Requirements:
- NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent)
- SMSTS
- NVQ Level 6
- CSCS Black Card
- First Aid at Work (3 Day)
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Utilities sector experience is essential
- EUSR SHEA Water and/or SHEA Gas beneficial
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage Health & Safety across multiple utilities and infrastructure projects throughout the North West region.
- Ensure full compliance with current HSE legislation, company procedures, and client requirements.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Review and approve RAMS, permits, and safe systems of work.
- Support project and operational teams with practical health and safety guidance.
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and workforce engagement initiatives.
- Monitor H&S performance and implement continuous improvement measures.
- Promote and maintain a positive safety culture across all projects.
- Liaise with clients, site management teams, and external stakeholders on all health and safety matters.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Manager within Utilities, Civil Engineering, Infrastructure, Energy, Water, Gas, or Power projects.
- Strong understanding of construction health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
- Experience managing multiple sites and project teams.
- Excellent communication, reporting, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence and drive behavioural safety improvements across projects.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
- NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety, or a comparable professional qualification.
- Chartered IOSH status (CMIOSH) or actively progressing towards chartership.
- Previous experience supporting major utilities, infrastructure, energy industrial projects.
- Awareness of Temporary Works procedures and lifting operation requirements.
- Experience overseeing environmental compliance, sustainability objectives, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with client-led audit processes and management system implementation.
