Project Engineer – Heavy Lift & Transport
We’re currently working with a specialist engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Project Engineer with a strong background in heavy lifting and transport operations.
This is a technically demanding and hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives on complex engineering challenges across large-scale construction and infrastructure projects.
The Role
Reporting into a Senior Project Engineer, you’ll be responsible for delivering technical solutions across a range of heavy lift and transport activities, including:
- Onsite lifting operations
- Hydraulic gantry installations
- Crane lift engineering
- SPMT and modular transport solutions
- Barge load-outs and load-ins
- Jack and skid systems
You’ll play a key role from concept through to execution — producing designs, calculations, and documentation, while also being present on-site to support delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a key point of contact for clients and site teams
- Develop innovative and practical engineering solutions
- Conduct site visits and provide conceptual lift plans
- Produce drawings, calculations, risk assessments, and technical documentation
- Ensure high standards of safety, quality, and document control
- Support and oversee operations on-site when required
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Engineering degree or strong industry experience
- CSCS Appointed Person
- Proven experience in heavy lift, transport, or lifting operations
- Experience with cranes (mobile, tower, crawler)
- Strong project engineering and lift planning knowledge
- Experience working directly with clients
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable:
- Experience with gantry systems, jack & skid operations, and SPMT equipment
- Knowledge of marine operations (load-outs/load-ins, RoRo)
- Understanding of industry standards and technical codes
- IOSH certification
- Experience with MathCAD
- HPC lifting standards knowledge
Additional Information
- UK and international travel required
- Site-based involvement as projects demand
- Must hold a valid driving licence and passport
Salary: £45,000 – £65,000
Location: Bridgend, Portishead, Nottingham
