Foundation Personnel are seeking an experienced and motivated Contracts Manager to lead multiple civil engineering and utilities projects across the Greater Manchester region. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, commercial awareness, and the ability to maintain effective control over project delivery from inception through to completion. This role requires a committed professional who values teamwork, takes pride in their work, and has the company’s best interests at heart.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Provide strong, positive leadership across project teams.

  • Mentor, develop, and support team members at all levels.

  • Manage internal and external stakeholders with professionalism and diplomacy.

  • Delegate tasks effectively while retaining appropriate oversight.

  • Maintain a calm, level-headed approach when operating under pressure.

Project & Contract Management

  • Oversee the successful delivery of multiple civil engineering contracts.

  • Develop, monitor, and update contract and working programmes.

  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with NEC and ICC contract requirements.

  • Maintain high standards of compliance, safety, and quality throughout project lifecycles.

  • Understand and manage the “bigger picture” of programme, client needs, and company objectives.

Commercial & Financial Accountability

  • Take responsibility for the P&L of assigned projects.

  • Work closely with commercial teams on cost control, forecasting, and value engineering.

  • Monitor financial performance and manage costs, risks, and opportunities throughout the project.

  • Contribute to commercial strategies that ensure maximum value generation and margin protection.


Professional Skills & Requirements

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience managing civil engineering projects of varying scale.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with internal teams and external partners.

  • Calm, organised, and able to manage demanding workloads and deadlines.

  • Proven track record of stable employment and career progression.

  • Ability to understand and interpret project programmes and their commercial implications.

  • Good working knowledge of NEC and ICC forms of contract.

Desirable

  • Civil engineering background with HNC, HND, or Degree-level qualification.

  • Commercially astute with a strong understanding of cost management and value generation.

  • Experience within utilities, infrastructure, or similar civil engineering environments.
