Groundworker
Position: Tunnelling Groundworker / Shaft Operative
Location: Knutsford, Cheshire (WA16 8DX)
Project: United Utilities Tunnelling Project
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 19:00 (11.5 hours paid)
Duration: Long-term work, expected to run until Christmas 2026
Salary or Pay Rate: DOE
Requirements:
- CSCS Card (essential)
- Previous tunnelling, mining, auger boring or heavy civils groundworks experience
- Confined Space (highly desirable)
- Slinger/Signaller (desirable)
- Strong understanding of safe working practices around deep excavations and shaft environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with shaft construction and tunnelling operations
- Supporting auger boring and pipe installation activities
- Working around launch and reception shafts
- Assisting with lifting operations and material handling
- Carrying out heavy groundworks and civils activities
- Maintaining a safe and organised work area
- Following site permits, RAMS and health & safety procedures at all times
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience working on tunnelling, shaft, utility infrastructure or heavy civils projects
- Experience working around deep excavations and underground works
- Ability to work effectively within a specialist tunnelling team
- Strong awareness of health and safety requirements on major infrastructure projects
